BOARD MEETING SUMMARY

Nov 17, 2003

President Patchett called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM.

Mr. Jim Motley, Auditor, presented the completed audit to the Board. He explained the different reports he completes and filed with state and federal agencies.

A Friend of Education plaque was presented to Jim Alred in recognition of the time and resources he has contributed through photography to the enrichment of Shiloh School District students.

A representative from Stevens Industries was not available to accept their Friend of Education plaque.

The Regular Meeting minutes of October 20, 2003, were approved.

The payment of bills was approved with the noted change to $71,992.00 for Wilkins and Lowe for District Insurance.

A letter was received from Chuck White thanking the Board and Administration for giving him the opportunity to attend the 2003 No Child Left Behind – Blue Ribbon Schools Award Ceremony in Washington, D.C. He note that to be one of 14 schools in Illinois to be recognized as a Blue Ribbon School out of 3,919 school in the state is something everyone should be quite proud of.

A congratulatory letter was received from U. S. Senator Peter G. Fitzgerald on Shiloh Elementary Schools selection as a 2003 National Blue Ribbon School. He commended the students, teachers, and staff of Shiloh Elementary for their dedication to education.

Robynne Evans addressed the Board regarding attendance centers.

Connie Downey addressed the board at the request of some parents who are concerned about consolidation of some sports.

David Albin addressed the Board regarding attendance centers.

Principal Derby reviewed her written report and provided the following additions:

The Shiloh Staff Christmas Party is December 12 at the Paris Country Club.

S.H.I.P. served an average of ten or more children per week in the last four weeks and the numbers are increasing.

Was asked if the ISAT or PSAE grades could be tied into a student’s grade and responded that they cannot, but they can offer rewards.

Superintendent Acklin reviewed his written report and added that the FY03 Food Services Annual Financial Report was submitted to the ISBE showing a deficit of only $9,329.00. The program is running in the black to date.

The 2003 Tentative Tax Levy was discussed and approved with no increase in total tax money.

The Board approved the Waste Water Treatment Plant Operator Contract for 2004.

The Board approved a recommended change to the Extra-Curricular Handbook.

The Attendance Center Committee Report was reviewed.

The School Board Convention discussion centered on meetings the members will be attending.

The proposed change to District Policy 5:330 – Educational Support Personnel Vacation (Non-Union) will be addressed at a later meeting as the entire policy needs to be addressed.

Executive Session occurred at 8:40 PM to consider the employment or dismissal of specific employees.

The Board returned to Open Session and adjourned at 9:08 PM.
