COMMUNICATIONS
Letter was
received from the ROE regarding the annual building inspection.
District was commended for the condition of the buildings. There
were no items of non-compliance or items of concern.
Superintendent
Acklin presented Friend of Education plaques to:
Sarah Bush
Lincoln Health Center: They started our school year by generously
donating several boxes of supplies for our students. A few weeks
into school, employees of SBLHC drove back to Shiloh to bring
many, many pairs of gloves and mittens, several dozen hats for
our boys and girls.
As Christmas
approached, Susan Jackson, the telecommunications director at
SBLHC, worked closely with the Shiloh District nurses to fulfill
the Angel Tree program. Shiloh District families who were in
need and who wanted to participate filled out a Christmas gift
list for each of the children in their family. These lists,
without the names of the children and families in order to protect
their privacy, were then sent to Susan. She hung the Christmas
Wish Lists on the SBLHC Christmas tree and employees took the
children’s lists. They purchased and wrapped each gift
that was on the list. The gifts were then delivered to our schools
on December 14 by Santa, Mrs. Claus and several helpers. Over
30 families and approximately 75 children were blessed with
these Christmas gifts. As a final gesture to our school district,
SBLHC presented a monetary donation to be used in anyway we
desired. A huge “thank you” goes to SBLHC and the
amazing employees who helped make this a wonderful year for
our school district. Nominated by Georgia Horsley
Sue Edmundson:
Sue has faithfully been coming to my classroom this year to
volunteer. She listens to the students read individually. She
treats each of them as they are the most important person in
the world. As a result, the students are eager to read aloud
to her and show her their progress.
Sue has
also spoiled us with homemade treats. At least once a week we
are blessed with something wonderful that she has baked. She
assures the students that if they are good and continue to read
then she will bring them in treats.
I tell Sue
on a weekly basis how much I appreciate her help. I hope that
by honoring her with this award she will see my appreciation
is sincere. Nominated by Julie Findley
The following
recipients were not at the meeting. Their plaques will be sent
to them.

Cabinets: Donated $1,000.00 worth of hard maple and hickory
to the Industrial Tech program and $50.00 toward our AWFS student

Summer Life
Safety Projects:
* Replace
sidewalk entrance to Door #2 of Shiloh Elementary. Work will
be done in-house.
* Replace
lockers in JH/HS hallways and boys’ locker rooms of Shiloh
High School. Lockers are being built by Paris Metal. Hallway
lockers at approximately $23,000 and locker room at approximately
$10,000. Paris Metal has donated around $3,000 worth of cabinetry
to the district for storing hazardous chemicals in the shop
areas. The 1994 Life Safety Resurvey work should all be completed
before July 1. That will bring us up to the 2004 Resurvey items.
Bus Garage:
Install overhead doors in the north end and pour a 6”
concrete floor to replace the gravel floor. Approximate cost
$14,000. Using our own crew the cost would be around $7,000.
IT program
has secured nearly $12,000 in donations thus far this school
year.
Co-op High
School Study: The feasibility study is complete. Larry Copes
and Ron Yates will go over the results at a meeting in early
June with the superintendents and two board members from each
of the six districts. Means and Freebairn will represent Shiloh
as they serve on the Strategic Planning Committee.
As a reminder
to the Board, because of TRS rules which don’t allow a
recently retired teacher to be reemployed in the same school
year, Sheryl Lawless will need to be employed at the July meeting
as a part-time Title I Reading Teacher.

Other: Hutchinson
requested on behalf of the Newman 150th Celebration Committee
for permission to use the Newman Grade School parking lot as
the town square and most surrounding streets will be blocked
off. The city would provide people haulers from the parking
lot to the square. Superintendent Acklin had talked to the schools
insurance carrier and was told we should be covered. Hutchinson
thought the city’s umbrella policy which covers the festival
might also cover any situation that might occur at the parking
lot.
Discussion
of a two foot wide asphalted strip of the NGS parking lot which
is actually J. Holmes property. Mr. Holmes has requested some
type of easement. Superintendent Acklin had been contacted by
Kim McGee quite some time ago about this. Mr. McGee was to have
an attorney draft something for the Board to sign but he did
not hear back from him.
Board entered
into Executive Session at 9:35 PM.
Board returned
to Open Session at 11:58 PM.
Board approved
the tentative SEA-NEA contract.
