AMINISTRATIVE REPORTS
Principal Hettmansberger
Mentoring Program: last year’s new teachers had some concerns about the mentoring program. With their input he has compiled a new in-house mentoring program which will be finalized and submitted to the Board and SEA/NEA approval in August.
After School Tutoring Program has been cancelled due to reduction in grant money. Last year’s program was not well utilized by the students.
Kile entered the meeting at 7:13 PM.

Superintendent Lewis
Building cleaning is going well and the custodians have moved to Newman Grade School today and should finish there this week.
Thanked Shiloh Township for coming and removing the concrete leading up to the Shiloh Elementary entrance. Without their help it would have required many man hours to break up and remove the concrete.
Will have a recommendation for PE/AD at the August meeting. Will be interviewing this week.

Have advertised the Ag position in locally and with all the universities as well as following up on any other leads. To fill the Ag position we may have to get creative with personnel, perhaps using two retired teachers. A co-op is unlikely because of our block schedule. There has been some discussion of changing the Ag curriculum more toward small engines and welding with less emphasis on science.
Thanked the Board for the opportunity to work for such a quality district and many thanks to Barb, Mary, Mr. H, Dick and his crew for making his transition into the job smooth. Looking forward to his time at Shiloh.
Distributed a proposed budget with the worst case scenario showing a $380,000 deficit in the Education Fund. We will be going month to month until taxes and State revenues are available. Edgar County taxes bills will be mailed mid to late August at best. Hopes to see some local tax money in October. State budget is an unknown and right now our budget is based on last year’s revenues with this year's expenses.

BUSINESS
Approved Executive Session minutes of June 25, 2007
Approved FY08 Student, Extra-Curricular, and Faculty Handbooks.
Approved a $200,000 loan from Working Cash Fund to Education Fund.

ANNOUNCEMENTS AND DISCUSSION
IASB School Board Convention: members were reminded to let someone in the Unit Office know if they would be arriving on Friday so rooms would not be lost.
Other: Superintendent Lewis told the Board that we will only be receiving $36,000 for new classrooms. This breaks down to $9,000 per new classroom. The District will need to expend $7,000 per classroom to bring all grade 3-6 rooms up to the same technology level.

Board entered into Executive Session at 7:50 PM to consider the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance or dismissal of specific employees of the public body, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee to determine its validity – 5ILCS 120/2(c)(1).

Board returned to Open Session at 8:15 PM.

The Shiloh CUSD #1 Board of Education meeting of July 16, 2007, adjourned at 8:15 PM.
