Meeting was called to order at 8:02 PM by President Means.

President Means welcomed the visitors to the meeting.
Board approved the following Consent Agenda items: Treasurer’s
Report, Activity Report, resignation of Christina Beatty, Science

Approved the regular meeting and executive session minutes of
the March 17, 2008.
Approved the payment of bills as presented.
Communications: Received a letter and Certificate
of Financial Recognition from ISBE. Financial Recognition is
the highest a school can received. The Shiloh District scored
3.9 out of 4.
Received a letter from Michael Schmitz, ISAT Testing
Monitor, commending the students and teachers for how
well they handled having a monitor in the classroom during ISAT
testing.
Audience to Visitors: Sarah Freebairn, Jessica Richardson, Victoria
Wax, Jon Dye, and Nelson Starkey, all representing the Student
Council, spoke of their concerns of splitting the Honors Banquet
into and evening Banquet and a daytime student assembly. The
students want to keep the Honors Banquet as is but organize
the program into a more streamlined less time consuming evening.
Shawn Bruce commented that deserving should be recognized.
Principal Hettmansberger: Congratulated all the students who
received third quarter honors.
Shiloh hosted the Chem Central Meeting for the U of I grant.
Christina Beatty has been involved in the program this year
and Kendra Carroll will be in it next year. Eight teachers visited
our science classrooms.
“I Sing the Body Electric” surveyed our students
about drug and alcohol use and dangerous behaviors. The results
of all the schools surveyed should be available in the fall.
Attended
a workshop “Bullying: The Issue of This Generation”
presented by the former principal of Paducah High School, on
April 10. Will be sharing this information with staff.
On April 11 the ISBE made a site visit to the Shiloh Elementary
as part of the E2T2 Grant.
National Library Week was April 14 – 18. Mr. Roskovensky
did a great job. Had the “Build a Book” event again
this year which went very well. Raised over $2,000 from the
Book Fair.
Attended the LOVC Principal Recognition Luncheon with Emily
Joines and Hannah Julian on April 17. This luncheon honors outstanding
senior scholar athletes.
Prom was last Saturday at Sycamore Hills Country Club. Our students
were very well behaved and he was very proud of them. Thanked
the Junior Class sponsors, Amy Niemerg and Christina Beatty
for their hard work. Gave a big thank you to Tressica Blair
for organizing the Post Prom event. Thanked the staff for their
help and involvement in making Post Prom such a success.
Newman Grade School has been selected as a pilot school for
the ThinkLink Learning Test. This will start in early May.
May 6th will be the Technology Open House for Shiloh Elementary.
The public is invited to come in and see all the technology
in use in the elementary classrooms.
Superintendent Lewis:
After talking with the attorney the security cameras were taken
down inside the Shiloh building because of the assumed liability
issue. It will cost around $20,000 to replace the system with
the major cost being the software to run the program. Tort money
will be used for this expense.
Will be attending the IASA Conference this Wednesday through
Friday.
Approved employment of Amber Phemister, Guidance Counselor for
the 2008-2009 school year.
Approved Fuel Bid from Lanman Oil Company for Diesel Fuel and
Unleaded Gasoline.
Set date and time of May 19, 2008, at 7:45 for Public Hearing
for Waiver or Modification of State Board Rules and/or School
Code Mandates.
Announcements and Discussion: Superintendent Lewis requested
that members complete the IASB Survey of Illinois Board Members
and Superintendents and return it to him.
First Reading of 2008-2009 Extra-Curricular Handbook and Jr/Sr
High School Handbook occurred.
The Board entered into Executive Session at 9:07 PM and returned
to Open Session at approximately 9:30.
