BOARD OF EDUCATION

Regular Board Meeting - 7:00 pm - May 18, 2009

President Means called the meeting to order at 7:04 PM.

Present: Eads, Hutchinson, Kile, Means, Young
Absent: Freebairn, Hales

Others Present: Superintendent Lewis, Principal Hettmansberger, Lesliea Palmer, Sandy Minott, Jan Fonner, Amy Kincaid, Jamie Bowyer, Jackie Holloway, Terry Sullivan

President Means welcomed everyone to the meeting.

Principal Hettmansberger introduced members of the Shiloh Envirothon Team: Nelson Starkey, Victoria Wax, Jacob Henry, Kolton Hodgson, and Stevi Davis. The team placed 6th in State and achieved the highest score at State in Aquatics. Congratulations to these students.

Board welcomed Dr. Allen Hall, who will be the new Interim Superintendent.

Approved payment of bills

Superintendent Lewis read two thank you notes. Pastor and Mrs. Lestine sent thanks for the senior citizen’s lunch sponsored by the Jr. Beta Club. Jacob Roskovensky thanked the Board for view the Raider Vision project.

Assistant Principal’s Report - Mr. Hageman: We held the spring concert on April 23rd. Mrs. Riddell did an outstanding job with the students and their signing. We had a really good crowd with 100 chairs in the gym and the bleachers full - we actually had to bring out more chairs. Mr. Lewis presented our retiring teachers with a gift and a few nice words right after the students surprised them with a song.
Think Link testing is going on in the building for the final time this year from May 11 -20.
The playground was updated with some much needed new boards for the teeter totters - thank you to Glen Hawkins and Dick Wagoner.
The elementary track meet is going to be held at Shiloh School on Tuesday the 26th with a rain date of Thursday the 28th. The track meet will include grades K through 5.

Principal’s Report – Mr. Hettmansberger: Congratulations to Mrs. Akers’s students who won an award at the Construction Trades Expo for bringing the most non-traditional students.
Thank you to Mrs. Grenda for her innovation to plan freshman and sophomore Explore and Plan testing the same day as PSAE/ACT testing and arranged for the seniors to be out of the building on a field trip.
Principal Hettmansberger’s plan for the last day of school is to have all students come to the Shiloh building to pick up their report cards and have everyone out of the building with reports distributed in 30 minutes or less.
Congratulated Shelby Smith and Bethany McGinness- IESA State Track.
High school teachers attended PBIS training- very excited to get PBIS implemented.

Superintendent Lewis received word that we have been approved for the Solar Grant. It is a $10,000 solar panel with an attached curriculum.
No further news on the “Bridging the Technological Divide” as yet.
Hopeful on the TARP funds for dishwasher upgrades.
Tax Rate will decrease by six cents based on the levy.

Approved employment of: Jan Allen, High School Science; Paula Coffer, Guidance; Missy Tingley, School Nurse; Wendy Erickson, JH Cheerleading Coach; Amy Kincaid, High School Volleyball Coach; and Lindsey Tharp, Asst High School Volleyball Coach.

Approved employment of Dr. Allen Hall, Interim Superintendent for one year: 120 days at $400 per day.

Approved the Tentative Amended Budget July 1, 2008-June 30, 2009.
Set date and time for Budget Hearing of Final Amended Budget July 1, 2008 – June 30, 2009, of June 22, 2009, at 6:30 PM.

Hutchinson reported the Personnel Committee is developing a binder holding all the job descriptions in the district. Also included will be copies of contracts, evaluations, and hiring policy.

President Means provided a brief report of the disciplinary committee meeting and will have more to report at the next meeting.

Board went into Executive Session.
Board returned to Open Session.

Tabled setting 2009-2010 salaries of non-union non-certified personnel and Principal’s salary for 2009-2010.

Meeting adjourned at 9:15 PM.
