May 17 - REGULAR MEETING - 7:00 PM

Vice President Hutchinson called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM.

Vice President Hutchinson welcomed everyone to the meeting.

Board approved the Public Hearing minutes of April 19, 2010 and Regular Meeting minutes of April 19, 2010.

Board approved payment of the bills as presented.

Letter from the Edgar County Animal Control was read thanking the Board for their donation in memory of Mr. Harold Stone.

Mrs. Beth Harbaugh reported on Newman Grade School Events including Raider Reward Days, a positive behavior reward system and the School Improvement Program.

There were no requests to address the Board during Open Session.

Principal’s Report – Mr. Hettmansberger:

Newman Spring Concert and Retirement Send-Off for Mrs. Karen Riddell was April 29. Mrs. Riddell produced a very nice concert and the students sang a song to her in honor of her retirement.

Congratulations Jacob Henry –Elected Vice President of Illinois Student Councils. This is a huge honor for someone from out small school to serve as Vice President. Hilary Rhode received an Honor Book Award.

Horizon Windfarm Meeting – May 18th at 7:00 PM.

8th Grade Promotion - May 20th at 7:00 PM

High School Graduation - May 21st at 7:00 PM

Elementary Track Meet - May 24th at 2:00 PM.

Elementary Honors Assembly - May 26th at 8:30 AM

Jr. High Chorus will present ‘Recess’ at 7:00 PM on May 18, 2010.

Mrs. Pollock has many displays in the building throughout the year of outstanding student art work. At the Edgar County Student Show, hosted by the Paris Bicentennial Art Center Shiloh was awarded Overall Best Display which won the art dept $100.00. Shiloh had four individual award winners: Stevi Davis, 1st place 3D high school; Mary Roberts 2nd place 3D high school; Linzie Nichols 2nd place 2D high school; and Jessica Hunt, honorable mention 2D junior high. We sent 20 art pieces representing 17 students.

Our students once again did very well at the Envirothon State Meet placing 7th. Stevi Davis placed first in aquatics for the second year in a row.

High School Awards night was a very nice evening. The amount of scholarships funds given out in our small school is amazing. Congratulations to all the seniors who received scholarships and awards.

Eight students participated in the JH State Track Meet with Nathan Haynes and Cyrus Furgeson each placing 9th.

Congratulations to Softball team which won their first game since 1990. Congratulations to Coaches Golloway and Hunt and all the softball girls.

Elementary Citizens of the Month for April were Micah Arbuckle, Rachel Milburn, Kelly Maton, Steven Buckellew, Brandon Crockett, Whitney Milburn, Noah Allen, BryAnna Evans

Board approved Spanish Club field trip dates of October 9-10, 2010. Decision regarding transportation will be determined at a later date.

Board approved the purchase of a 2008 IC Bus Corporation Model CE300 for $57,380 including the remaining new vehicle warranty, with trade in allowance of $16,000 for Bus #9, a 2002 Freightliner Thomas, 71 passenger bus.

Board entered Executive Session at 7:43 PM and returned to Open Session at 9:18 PM.

Board approved part time summer employment of Dana Bogle, Lauren Bogle, Keith Findley, and Desiree Rhode.

Meeting adjourned at 9:20 PM.
