Physical Science
Chemistry I
This couse involves the study of the "why" of nature. During this course, the principles and
laws of modern chemistry will be closely investigated. Emphasis is on the theoretical aspects
of chemistry. Limited lab work is conducted to illustrate some of the principles discussed in
class.
Chemistry II
This is a lab-based course divided into two portions. One semester covers principles of qualitative
analysis. Students analyze known and unknown solutions containing metallic ions from each of four
groups. During the second semester, students conduct a series of lab activities dealing qualitative
analysis. Students master the use of titrations to standardize solutions and analyze unknown compounds.
Students also use a variety of equipment including analytic balances and volumetric flasks. Focus
throughout the course is on proper record keeping and reporting, lab technique, and reasoning skills.
Physics
This is a year-long course focused on concepts in classical physics. Lecture/discussion topics
covered include kinematics, circular motion, simple amchines, sound, and optics. Students
also complete a variety of projects including egg-breaking machines and pin-hole cameras. The course
includes an introduction to modern physics.
