Students in Kindergarten through 12th grades will need to be checked into Teacherease for attendance on these 3 E-Learning days. Students may check themselves in by logging into Teacherease and checking present when the attendance box pops up. Parents may also mark students present by logging into their parent account. Teacherease has updated their app and parents report it is working great for attendance. If you have not updated your Teacherease app in the last 3 weeks, uninstall the current app, and go to your app store to install the latest version. Students who are not E-Learning because of illness, etc., need to be called into the student offices to avoid an unexcused absence.

He helped with summer cleaning, sub-janitor, drove students, and took care of almost every evening/weekend event for 17 years. This summer he is retiring from Shiloh, but will still be on the Hume Fire Dept. Heck, he started cleaning the old Hume Grade School when he was 7 years old. His day was custodian there and after morning paper route, Woody went to school to clean boards, and help get the fire going to heat the school. Everyone will miss his smile an kind words at the ballgames, but we all know he will be still be busy working at home!

Our world has certainly changed over the past few weeks. Since the yearbook is a record of a school year, we would be remiss if our current situation was not included in that record. Please take a moment to share your and your children’s thoughts to be part of this year’s publication (no political comments please). First, what are some of the changes (big and little) that have impacted your daily lives? Second, what are some of the “silver linings” that you have noticed during this “shelter-in-place”? Next, what do you miss? And finally, what “life lessons” have you learned? Please feel free to respond to one or all of these. You can respond here, through my Mrs. Saddoris Facebook page or my email (saddorisk@shiloh1.org). Thank you so much and have a great summer!

Shiloh's 2020 prom has been postponed, and we hope to reschedule it when the social distancing mandate has been lifted. In the meantime, radio station 104.3 has invited area students to participate in their virtual prom. https://www.1043theparty.com/2020/04/01/party-prom/ This is a way to share pictures in your prom attire on Facebook and/or Instagram. 104.3 is inviting you to submit photos of yourself and family along with songs you would like to hear while dancing in your house. It's not the same as the traditional prom, but we are making the best of the current situation.

As we anticipated, Governor Pritzker announced the cessation of in-person learning for the remainder of this year. We still intend to postpone prom and graduation ceremonies until later in the summer. At Monday's board meeting we will propose a plan for an nontraditional graduation ceremony. There will be an organized plan for parents to pick up students' personal belongings as well as to return Chromebooks and textbooks to school. We will continue with remote/e-learning plans for the remainder of this year. The last packet will go out May 11. We do not have guidance as of today to how we calculate final grades for transcripts. We will keep you posted.

Online Registration is up and running! Anyone who shared their email addresses with me should be receiving a TeacherEase welcome email today. The email contains a link that will take you to the TeacherEase website and prompt you to set a password. Once this is done it will take you directly to online registration. There are some forms that will be listed under the online form that still need to be printed and filled out. You can either scan and email those forms or you can bring them in during registration. No long lines though, anyone dropping online forms will be able to drop and go. Fees are also being accepted online. You can, of course, still pay fees at the school during registration by check or cash if you prefer. Once you set your password, the link in the welcome email is no longer valid and you will need to go directly to the website here to log in for future visits: https://www.teacherease.com/common/login.aspx If you would like to use online registration and have not yet shared an email, you can still do so up until 8-02-19. Please send your name, email and student name(s) to weber-hallj@shiloh1.org.

50 years of Education - Quote from Beverly Cleary. A prolific children's author, Clear is now 103 (born in 1916) starting school before most believed in education for all. Her memory "The first grade was separated into three reading groups—Bluebirds, Redbirds, and Blackbirds. I was a Blackbird. To be a Blackbird was to be disgraced. I wanted to read, but somehow could not." With the help of a school librarian who introduced her to books she enjoyed, Cleary caught up by third grade and started to spend a lot of time reading and at the library. By sixth grade, a teacher suggested that she become a children's writer based on essays she had written.

Winterfest week is January 28th through February 2nd with walk-in/ coronation/grand march taking place at 7:00 on the 2nd and the dance to follow until 10:30. Students who plan on walking in must sign up and pay $4.00 per person. A dance with a DJ will be held after coronation for all students who wish to participate. The price will be $5 per individual. Students participating in Walk-in will have already paid for their dance tickets. Students in court will walk in and attend the dance for free. If a Shiloh student’s date for the dance is from another school, the Shiloh student must pick up a form in the high school office for the date to be able to attend. Tuesday, January 29th is the last day to sign up to participate in the walk-in.

National Positive Thinking Day is tomorrow, September 13th. At the start of the year the junior high teachers decided to celebrate some of the lesser known national holidays & incorporate some preplanned fun & education across the JH. We have chosen one action day every month. Positive Thinking Day is our first! Tomorrow students will find a positive message on their lockers and will be encouraged to share some positive thoughts with others. Shiloh Junior High teachers and staff positively believe that great things will be accomplished by our students this year!
